Syngenta’s crop protection research biology organization is seeking a skilled Bio-informatic Engineer to join our Crop Protection Biology Research team. The purpose of the role is to work collaboratively with our experimentalist with a focus on soil health & plant health studies, developing and implementing bioinformatics tools and methods to support research activities.


  • Additional Operational responsibility:
  • Design and implement bioinformatics pipelines for processing and analysis of omics data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute experiments
  • Develop and implement methods for the integration of omics data
  • Analyze and interpret large-scale genomic and transcriptomic datasets
  • Contribute to the development of algorithms and computational models to solve biological problems in our soil health & plant health teams
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest bioinformatics tools and techniques
  • Communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders

  • Educated to PhD or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in bioinformatics
  • Proficiency in metabarcoding, meta genetics, microbial profiling, and marker gene analysis
  • Familiarity with transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomic analyses
  • Experience in one or more multi-omics integration technique
  • Strong skills in multi-omics experimental design
  • Excellent programming skills in Python, R, and Bash scripting
  • Experience in conducting and communicating statistical analyses, including multivariate analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have:


  • Experience in both vertical and horizontal integration of omics data
  • Familiarity with matrix factorization techniques for omics integration and biomarker identification
  • Experience with metagenomic analyses for collective genome analysis
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics workflow management tools such as Nextflow or Snakemake
