Hallwyl Castle was built in the 11th century and is one of the foremost water castles in Switzerland located at the northern end of Lake Hallwil on two islands in the Aabach creek near Seengen.

The water castle was the seat of the von Hallwyl family. In its over eight hundred year history, the lower nobility clan distinguished itself in a variety of ways: on the battlefields of the old Swiss confederacy, at the European courts, in science, politics, business, and in the world of finance. A tour of the castle takes visitors through eleven different exhibits explaining life in the Middle Ages and later times.

Through the audio guide, some family members talk about what their life was like, interspersed with comments from other, simple people, such as the farmers and the subjects of the Hallwyl family. A special audio tour is available for children.

On some selected days an interesting programme, including public tours and events, is available to the visitors.

The courtyard is a pleasant place for visitors to sit and relax. A bistro offers a wide selection of snacks and beverages.

«Dragon Valley» in Seetal

The Dragon Valley is a new project for families conceived by Seetal Tourism. It will encompass various offers all related in some way to the fascinating field of “dragon research”. The central theme in this project is the legend of the Seetal dragons, which includes tales of the dragonstone and a presentation of the home of Fauchi the dragon at Lenzburg Castle ,bringing these two aspects together to tell the story of the dragon families in Seetal.

The offers being staged for tourists include trips on the dragon research boat on Lake Hallwil, the dragon swing in Schongiland, the Seetal university of dracology at Heidegg Castle and eight audio stations in the Seetal with reports and stories all relating to dragon research. In addition, the children’s book “Seetaler Drachen-Saga. Band 231” (legend of the Seetal dragons. Edition 231) has been created.

On 29 April 2018, the opening celebration of the Dragon Valley will take place at Hallwyl Castle. This castle is therefore the starting point for exploring the region and the quest for the Seetal dragons.
